چکیده
Abstract Background Forests are naturally endowed to combat climate change by protecting people and livelihoods as well creating a base for sustainable economic social development. But this natural mechanism is often hampered anthropogenic activities. It therefore imperative take measures that environmentally not only mitigation but also its adaptation. This study was carried out assess the role of Non-timber forest products (NTFPs) an adaptation strategy based on local perception cope with impacts among forest-dependent communities around Bamkoko Forest Reserve in South West Region Cameroon. Methods Datasets were collected through household questionnaires (20% population each village constitute site sample), participatory rural appraisal techniques, transect walks 4 corners Bamboko square sample 25 m 2 × identified record NTFPs reserve, and direct field observations.). Both qualitative quantitative (statistics) methods used analyze data. Results A total 18 plant species being harvested Non Timber Products residents Reserve. The majority respondents (88%) perceived there has been patterns due increased temperatures unpredictable rainfalls. Adaptation of forest trees to climate change
There is an urgent need to determine the adaptive potential of forest trees given their importance in ecosystem functioning and the associated ecological and economic services they provide. Indeed, underestimating rapid adaptation could lead to unnecessary recommendations such as the use of non-native (and perhaps non-adapted) genetic material for reforestation. Overestimating adaptive potentia...
متن کاملDiversity in Forest Management: Non- Timber Forest Products and Bush Meat
This paper provides an overview of the complexity, practical and policy challenges that need to be faced in dealing with sustainable management of forests for non-timber forest products (NTFP). Conservation biologists, resource managers and policy makers are all faced by the high diversity of species used, the lack of knowledge about the biology of many harvested species, and the varying tenure...
متن کاملThe ecological implications of harvesting non-timber forest products
1. The harvest of wild non-timber forest products (NTFP) represents an important source of income to millions of people world-wide. Despite growing concern over the conservation of these species, as well as their potential to foster forest conservation, information on the ecological implications of harvest is available only in disparate case studies. 2. Seventy studies that quantify the ecologi...
متن کاملNon-timber Forest Products Inventory Perspectives from the United States
Increasing interest in non-timber forest products (NTFPs) has led to their greaterrecognition in sustainable forest management planning. This is evident in local resourcemanagement plans for the Robson Valley in east-central British Columbia, where publicinput shows strong support for the sustainable development of NTFP harvesting. However, information needed to develop sustainab...
